| Rustic Ramble
Woodside, California
This Woodside garden rambles across five-acres of rolling terrain. Developed
years ago, the core of the garden was surrounded by tall oleander hedges,
blocking views of the surrounding mountains and access to the remainder
of the property. A strolling garden was designed with points of interest
along the way, and extended views in two directions, screening neighboring
structures, solving numerous drainage problems, and replacing a huge oak.
Boulders placed throughout the gardens provide bold sculptural forms,
scale and serve as anchors to the serpentine stone walls. Revelations
to discover while rambling these gravel paths are a hidden sun terrace,
the stone amphitheater, the rose beds, a bog garden, various drifts of
flowers, a production garden, and a formal fountain garden closest to
the house. connected all parts of the garden.
