| Kootenai Ranch
Stevensville, Montana
On the flat bottom lands between the Bitterroot Mountains and River is
a spectacular spread of land. Bald eagles fly above and multiple creeks
wind through forests of ponderosa pine, aspen, and cottonwood.
This new ranch compound is an assembly of four structures situated to
take advantage of the views to mountains and open water. The underlying
scope of this project was to minimize impact, to restore habitat, and
to encourage wildlife to return to the land.
Local stone for paving and walls anchor the structures to the land and,
in some cases, vertical stone monuments are used to guard the entries.
In coming years, the landscape will consume the architecture into a thicket
of vegetation, as it was intended.
