| Desert Modern
Palm Springs, California
Built by collectors of modern art in the 70’s, this residence is
a testament to modern architecture with tilt-up concrete slabs, tall plate
glass windows, and flat gravel roofs. The house, sited perfectly on the
side of a cliff, maximizes the winter sun and dramatic mountain views
to the west. The new restorative design uses plant material best representing
a desert climate. Cacti and succulents, olives and palms constitute the
majority of new plantings. Colorful plantings of bougainvillea and lantana,
in combination with plants of a more textural quality, provide the accents
to the garden.
The outdoor sculpture collection is sited for prominent viewing with dramatic
uplighting to enhance the nighttime experience. The new granular pool
finish and expanded terraces completes the garden restoration and blends
the site gracefully into the surrounding desert landscape.
